Microcredit Regulatory Authority
The Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) has been established by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh under the "Microcredit Regulatory Authority Act 2006” to promote and foster sustainable development of microfinance sector through creating an enabling environment for NGO-MFIs in Bangladesh. MRA is the central body to monitor and supervise microfinance operations of NGO-MFIs. License from the Authority is mandatory to operate microfinance operations in Bangladesh as an NGO.
 

MRA officials attended the 2017 AFI Global Policy Forum

 

Global Policy Forum is the highest forum for regulators in terms of financial inclusion issues discussion. This year it took place in Sharm-El-Sheikh in Egypt during 12-15 September, 2017 with the theme of Exploring Diversity Promoting Inclusion. Global Policy Forum, 2017 focused on the diversity of culture, experience and background within the AFI network and illustrated how this diversity creates and promotes effective financial inclusion policy reforms and innovations. As a founding member of AFI and part of two important working groups (Financial Inclusion strategy peer learning working group and Consumer empowerment and market conduct group) in AFI, a team of five officials headed by the Executive Vice Chairman of MRA Mr. Amalendu Mukherjee attended the Global Policy Forum 2017. Mr. Mukherjee also spoke in a plenary session on “Innovative Digital Technologies and Microfinance”. All participants from different countries of the globe enjoyed it very much and created new horizon to contribute for exploring diversity and promoting inclusion.    


MoU for Establishment of MF-CIB between Bangladesh Bank and MRA 

 

Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Bank for the establishment of Microfinance Credit Information Bureau (MF-CIB) on the 8th August, 2017 in Bangladesh Bank Conference Room. Honorable Governor of Bangladesh Bank Fazle Kabir, Deputy Governor S.K. Sur Chowdhury and Executive Vice Chairman of MRA Amalendu Mukerjee delivered their valuable speech in the MoU signing ceremony along with the welcome speech by Monsura Khatun, General Manager, Bangladesh Bank. Among others, the high officials of Bangladesh Bank and MRA were also present on the occasion. Governor of Bangladesh Bank assured to extend full support for the establishment of MF-CIB for ensuring of a sound microcredit culture in Bangladesh. Executive Vice Chairman of MRA also expressed gratitude to Bangladesh Bank and thanked Bangladesh Bank officials for make it happen to start establishing MF-CIB with the signing of MoU which was a long awaited agenda for MRA.
