The Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) has been established by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh under the "Microcredit Regulatory Authority Act 2006” to promote and foster sustainable development of microfinance sector through creating an enabling environment for NGO-MFIs in Bangladesh. MRA is the central body to monitor and supervise microfinance operations of NGO-MFIs. License from the Authority is mandatory to operate microfinance operations in Bangladesh as an NGO.

MoU for Establishment of MF-CIB between Bangladesh Bank and MRA 



Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Bank for the establishment of Microfinance Credit Information Bureau (MF-CIB) on the 8th August, 2017 in Bangladesh Bank Conference Room. Honorable Governor of Bangladesh Bank Fazle Kabir, Deputy Governor S.K. Sur Chowdhury and Executive Vice Chairman of MRA Amalendu Mukerjee delivered their valuable speech in the MoU signing ceremony along with the welcome speech by Monsura Khatun, General Manager, Bangladesh Bank. Among others, the high officials of Bangladesh Bank and MRA were also present on the occasion. Governor of Bangladesh Bank assured to extend full support for the establishment of MF-CIB for ensuring of a sound microcredit culture in Bangladesh. Executive Vice Chairman of MRA also expressed gratitude to Bangladesh Bank and thanked Bangladesh Bank officials for make it happen to start establishing MF-CIB with the signing of MoU which was a long awaited agenda for MRA.      

The World Bank delegates visited MRA


A five members team of delegate from The World Bank led by Senior Environment Specialist Ms Nadia Sharmin met with the high officials of Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) on July 26, 2017. Mr. Amalendu Mukherjee, Executive Vice Chairman(EVC) of MRA presided over the meeting. The Director of MRA Mr. Md. Ali Noor, and Deputy Director Mr. Muhammad Shahidul Islam shared their views with the team while Deputy Director, Mr. Mohammad Yakub Hossain delivered a brief presentation on microfinance, licensing framework and prudential regulations of microfinance in Bangladesh. The team discussed about Sustainable Enterprise Project on Microfinance sector and showed keen interest to know about the regulatory framework of our microfinance sector.
